A new ostomy can be a life-changing event. It requires a patient to adapt to a new lifestyle. Our ostomy nurses are trained to provide proper colostomy care and teaching services to every patient.
Colostomy is an opening in the colon which is also called stoma. This is made by pulling the intestine to the skin surface and stitching the edges of the intestine to the skin.
As a rule, such patients need special treatment after the surgery. The abdomen may be quite tender for a certain time after the operative treatment. Our nurses will provide you with the necessary assistance and help during the first couple of weeks after surgery. Your ostomy nurse will help you fit your colostomy with the proper appliance or porch. You will be also trained how to cope with the difficulties of pouch fitting all by yourself, without the need to contact the ostomy nurse.
